Built from inside the maktab

MyMaktab began on a maktab committee in Melbourne, with hundreds of students, classes on different days, and the same few people doing the admin every week.

Our story

We tried spreadsheets, WhatsApp groups, paper record books and generic school software. None of it understood a maktab: classes after Asr, levels instead of year groups, volunteer teachers, term fees and families who mostly live on their phones.

So we built the system we needed, in partnership with the people using it every day. Every module on this site exists because an ustadh, a treasurer or a parent asked for it.

Our niyyah is simple: give the time back to teaching the Qur’an, and make every family feel looked after.

The principles we build on

Amānah

Your families’ data is a trust

Children’s records, contact details and payments are held with the seriousness of an amanah. Access is role-based by design, so each person only sees what they should.

إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَأْمُرُكُمْ أَن تُؤَدُّوا۟ ٱلْأَمَٰنَٰتِ إِلَىٰٓ أَهْلِهَآ

Indeed, Allah commands you to render trusts to whom they are due.

Sūrat al-Nisāʾ 4:58

Itqān

Done properly, not just done

Every screen is built to work on the phone a parent actually has, to be readable by a grandparent, and to be fast on masjid Wi-Fi.

إِنَّ اللَّهَ يُحِبُّ إِذَا عَمِلَ أَحَدُكُمْ عَمَلًا أَنْ يُتْقِنَهُ

Allah loves that when one of you does a job, he does it with excellence.

al-Bayhaqī, Shuʿab al-Īmān

Taysīr

Make it easy for people

Fee reminders that are gentle, notices that are clear, and forms that never ask twice. Ease for families is ease for the maktab.

يَسِّرُوا وَلَا تُعَسِّرُوا

Make things easy, and do not make them difficult.

Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 69
